Title: Engaging the Strengths of Families, Youth, and Communities in Rebuilding Learning Supports (Newsletter)

Description: Next time you are involved in a group discussion about how to improve schools, look around the table. After you note who is there, ask yourself, which stakeholder groups are not represented (or are not effectively represented). Missing too often are the contributions of families, youth, and many other key community entities. This is the case despite policies that call for enhancing parent and community involvement. Policy makers recognize that such involvement is essential to schools and schooling. However, as has been a common experience in operationalizing policy, verbal commitments have not been reflected in daily practice.
