Abstract: This paper reviews statistics of the scope and magnitude of school-based violence and related community violence and discusses its impacts on youth (including reviewing typical responses to violence exposure). It then offers guidelines for decreasing school violence and for developing mental health interventions for youth exposed to violence in their schools and communities.
