Title: A Sociological View of the Increase in ADHD Diagnoses (Info Resource)

Description: Along with learning disabilities, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder is the most common diagnosed “mental disorder” in children and adolescents. Prevalence estimates of ADHD range from 4-12% of school-aged children in the United States. And, studies indicate a significant increase in the use of prescribed medication in treating ADHD (e.g., up by 28% from 2007 to 2011). These rapidly escalating increases have led to concerns about false positive diagnoses. These concerns are fueled by those who approach the topic from a non-medical or psychological perspective.
